Working Title Manager, Journalism Production Center
Description

Reporting to the Manager, Production Facilities, TRF, the Manager, Journalism Production Center (JPC) is responsible for the entire oversight and management of the Journalism Production Center. The Center includes a TV studio and control room, newsroom, Evolving Media Suite, edit suites, and support areas. Additionally, the Manager supervises the Assistant Manager, JPC and student staff.

Primary Duties, Responsibilites, and Tasks
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Education (including hardware, software, and equipment)

Bachelor’s Degree. Television control room and/or broadcast news experience, video production process (acquisition through post production), non-linear editing (Final Cut Pro X). Strong understanding of Mac and Windows operating systems. Personnel supervisory experience. Ability to work successfully and productively with students and able to work in a high demand and fast paced academic environment.

Preferred/Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Education (including hardware, software, and equipment)

Bachelor’s Degree in Video/Television Production or Broadcast Journalism.

ENPS (or other newsroom computer system), Bachelor’s Degree in Video/Television Production or Broadcast Journalism.
ENPS (or other newsroom computer system), Final Cut Pro X, Control Room Automation for news, preferably Ross Overdrive, Adobe Creative Suite, Xpression Graphics Software, video acquisition and editing, knowledge of Media Asset Management, basic video/computer equipment, maintenance/repair skills, basic understanding of networking concepts, strong knowledge of audio/video system setup and base level engineering. Familiarity of control room systems, including video servers, audio board, switcher and intercom. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to keep current on the latest technology affecting the media industry.

Required Prior Work Experience

3 – 5 years of broadcast news production or television facility operations management.

Job Duties

Individual Work Activities

Assist, support, and troubleshoot student and faculty use of the JPC editing systems, control room, and studio.

Train faculty, students, and classes in operation of JPC technical equipment and software.

Perform base level maintenance and repairs.

Individual Work Activities

Hire, train, supervise, professionally develop and manage performance of the Assistant Manager, Journalism Production Center. Supervision includes direct work assignments based on manager’s independent judgment and the interest of the employer. Management of performance includes discipline and formal performance evaluations that directly affect the employee’s pay raises and/or job security. The Manager, Journalism Production Center will be directly evaluated, in part, based on performance as a supervisor. Also, directly hire and supervise approximately 16 part-time student employees.

Administer and Manage the mass storage video server for Journalism curriculum.

Individual Work Activities

Plan for and install or assist in installation of new equipment. Coordinate equipment repairs and installations with TRF Engineering.

Individual Work Activities

Coordinate computer repairs and software updates with IT Lab Support.

Individual Work Activities

Manage field equipment and edit suite reservations for Journalism students. Coordinate schedules of the JPC including academic courses and other student use as well as reservations of the evolving media suite.
